India Tours main menu
DESERT FESTIVAL Jaisalmer (January / February)
The festival is a showcase of the performing arts of the region, on the stretches of sand around the desert citadel of Jaisalmer. It is characterized by a number of amusing turban tying competitions and camel races. The region also has its very own Mr. Desert contest. Lively craft bazaars and a sound and light spectacle make it a celebration of life amidst an arid landscape. Folk artistes performing against a backdrop of sand dunes, on a full – moon night, heighten the romantic lure of the desert. Desert Festival is a perfect time to visit Jaisalmer.

How to include the Jaisalmer experience into the Magic Rajasthan tour itinerary:

Day – 5 Jodhpur/Jaisalmer.
Meals Included: Breakfast
There are many great fortresses all over Rajasthan, but very few can compare with Mehrangarh Fort. Perched on a rocky cliff, it has a commanding view of the surrounding landscape. This Palace complex was first built in the 15th Century and later added to, over the centuries by successive generations of Maharajas. It is one of the most impressive palace complexes in Rajasthan. The museum within the Fort is one of the finest museums in Rajasthan and the best laid out. This morning you’ll proceed on a sightseeing tour of the Mehrangarh Fort.

After lunch, you’ll proceed on your 4 hour drive to Jaisalmer. On arrival you’ll check-into your hotel. Overnight in Jaisalmer.

Free for Dinner. Overnight in. Jaisalmer.

Day-6 Jaisalmer.

Meals Included: Breakfast / Lunch.
The medieval fortress town of Jaisalmer rises out of the remote deserts of Rajasthan, like a city at the very end of the world. The city even today has an exotically medieval flavor to it. Most of the town lies within the thick sand stone walls of the fort, and wandering through it is almost like stepping into the pages of the Arabian Nights. It’s bazaars are evocative of the days of the medieval camel caravans when the region was a trading emporium for splendid carpets, stallions from Arabia and wines from Shiraz. Also within the fort are some old Jain temples, dating back to the 12th century. One of the remarkable things about Jaisalmer is the Havelis or mansions built by its wealthy merchants and nobles in the 19th century. They are famed for their exquisitely carved sandstone facades, a feat of stone-carving unmatched anywhere else in India.
This morning you’ll visit the Jaisalmer Fort and Havelis. After lunch at the TRIO Restaurant, you’ll be free this afternoon to wander in the bazaars. Towards sunset you’ll be transferred to Khuri Village for a camel ride on the sand dunes to appreciate sunset. Return to your accommodations. Overnight in Jaisalmer.

Day – 7 Jaisalmer/Jodhpur
Meals: Breakfast.
After breakfast, you’ll commence your drive back to Jodhpur.
